The Secret to Time Travel is In Your Beer!

TIME TRAVEL IS HERE!!! Actually, it’s been here since the 1800’s. Check it out.
Have you ever drank too much and then woke up somewhere, not knowing how you got there? BOOM. Time travel… Not really. You probably blacked out and you should check into that.

Back in Time.

Believe it or not, drinking too much can take you back in time. Like back when human brains weren’t fully developed into what they are today.
timetravel3Think about this. The alcohol from your drink enters your blood stream and hitches a ride throughout your entire body. When it reaches your Central Nervous System and enters your brain, it starts “unplugging” the connectors for things like self control, reflexes and decision making skills. (More info @ Alcohol and Your Brain)

How It Works.

One of the parts that alcohol really messes with is your frontal lobe, and that’s where you travel back in time. Many of you have probably seen people at the bar who are so drunk, they kind of seem primitive… almost like cave-people if you think about it, lol. The alcohol has basically turned off the self controls for urges, emotions, decisions and violence. It took our species millions of years to develop that part of our brain and in a few drinks you could go back there.
Underage drinkers are at a greater risk of this because their frontal lobe isn’t fully developed yet (it typically is developed by 21-25 years old). This means that it takes less alcohol to mess them up and can even do some permanent damage.

Don’t Die.

There’s a line between drinking responsibly and getting drunk. And I know it doesn’t seem “cool” to say this because getting drunk is glamorized so much… but it’s awesome to know your limit and watch out for your friends. Of course no one thinks they’ll “become a statistic”, but neither do any of the 1,800 college students who die each year from alcohol related injuries. I just don’t want it to be one of my friends who’s hurt or killed because I didn’t have the courage to do something different or step in.
Anyway, I’m getting off my soapbox now 🙂 Enjoy time travel responsibly when you’re of age and always have a sober driver. And if you choose to party sober, you’re not alone. More than 2 million college students in the U.S. don’t drink or do drugs.
