Two fraternities were on probation for incidents with alcohol, but they decided to do something unique to come back from that. They threw a party… a sober party.
Alcohol Education speaker, Jake White, from Party.0 was presenting at Michigan Tech University. After hearing Jake’s story, the Greek Life and Residence Life audience became interested in hosting sober house parties for their campus.
Two students in Greek Fraternities led the event and saw a fun opportunity to restore their reputation on campus. “Since the probation, we were mandated to host an alcohol education event. But we wanted to do something fun, not like a lecture. So many alcohol events in college focus on the negative aspects of partying. We thought a sober party would keep things fun and educational.”
Jimmy Johns and Papa Johns sponsored the party with free pizza and sandwiches. Students played alcohol education jeopardy to provide the education piece then stayed for water pong, games, foosball and food. The highlight was when campus police showed up and played games with everyone.
The event was open to all of campus but Greek Life took a big interest in helping make this possible. They see it as a way to host a positive and fun alcohol event thats led by students.
